OAKLAND, Feb. 5, 2020 – After the Game, a new feature-length sports documentary profiling female former athletes, announced today the premiere of the theatrical trailer for the film.
After the Game: A 20 Year Look at Three Former Athletes follows three young women on a 1999 collegiate basketball team as they test their limits to reach their athletic potential and seek NCAA glory at a small university. Nearly 20 years later, these same women each find themselves applying lessons learned from their playing days to different professional off-the-court challenges today. Weaving together the stories of coaches and players, After the Game gives perspective into the world of small-time college athletics and aims to make connections between sports participation and professional success.
The film’s director and producer April Abeyta, herself a former collegiate athlete, had this to say on the decision to time the trailer’s release to National Girls and Women in Sports Day:
“We felt this was the perfect way to celebrate this important day, bringing awareness to both the film and the organized efforts happening around the country to promote and advocate women in sports,” said Abeyta. “Our film focuses on the long term benefits that athletics can have on a young woman, but some girls never get the chance to play because they don’t have access or support. National Girls and Women in Sports Day puts emphasis on the access and support, which can then lead to the positive outcomes we see in our film.”
The film recently completed post-production and will premiere in March 2020.
